The achievements of Maureen FitzSimons when she was a teenager in America (which we call Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the child-prodigy category. A child of Irish origins, who was surrounded she was by gifted parents, and her family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen was welcomed into the family-oriented home on the 17th of August 20 in Ranelagh. Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons was the mother of her. She was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and owned shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athlete at heart and enjoyed playing tough sports. This interest was combined with a natural talent for performance. She was awarded nearly all Feis Award for Theatre and Drama the country could give. When she turned 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her dreams of classical theater as well as singing opera.
